A recent study from Gallup showed that what employees want is, trust, compassion, stability, and hope from their employers.
Often during 'hard times' businesses cut people development and other 'non essential costs.' Many people I've spoken with over the last month believe that this is short sighted and that companies that continue to invest in their people will win over those who cut costs and batten down the hatches.
Research from a recent study showed that groups of senior managers in two multi-national corporations found that a 6 month coaching intervention proved highly successful.
Scores across a range of ten key indicators averaged out at 77% effective, for example:
Enhanced Self-Awareness (91% effective) Increased Self-Confidence (83%) Increased Leadership Skills (80%) Improved Goal Setting Abilities (80%) Lowered stress levels (60%)
In addition, the study measured success levels on unique individual objectives as set by the individuals being coached themselves. It found a 79% level of efficacy in that regard. Other studies have similarly found there to be high levels of effectiveness of this medium of intervention.
